Women's shelters to receive support as need grows during pandemic

--------- SCRIPT ---------

Reporter Script:

One of the many concerning outcomes of the global pandemic is a rise in violence against women in communities across Canada.

Some regions of the country have reported a 20 to 30 per cent increase in rates of gender-based violence and domestic violence since the pandemic began.

Many women’s shelters are seeing greater demand for services, receiving more calls from women and concerned family and friends.

However, many of these local shelters rely heavily on community donations to deliver programs and support. Now, they face challenges fundraising and operating at full capacity while keeping everyone safe from the virus.

To help these shelters remain open, all donations to the LOVE YOU by Shoppers Drug Mart program are going directly to local women’s shelters this year. The funds will help women fleeing violence receive critical support services to help with their transition to a life free of abuse.

You can contribute online at shoppers dot c a slash women’s health or at any participating location.
