Massage therapy treatment during COVID-19

(NC) As we continue to live with the pandemic, many of us are getting back to routine and healthcare appointments. But these visits may look a little bit different. So, what changes can you expect during your massage therapy treatment?

  • You will be screened for COVID-19 before your appointment and again when you arrive.
  • You will need to wash your hands or use hand sanitizer upon your arrival and before you leave.
  • You will be asked to come to the appointment alone if you can, and as close to the appointment time as possible.
  • You will need to wear a mask (if tolerated) through the entire appointment.

You may also be wondering what your Massage Therapist is doing to help limit the spread of COVID-19. Your Massage Therapist always has practices in place to keep things clean and prevent the spread of infection, but these are now enhanced. Here’s what you can expect:

  • Your Massage Therapist will wear a medical mask whenever they are within two metres of you, including during treatment. They may also wear other personal protective equipment, including gloves, goggles or a gown.
  • Any item used during treatment will be cleaned and disinfected or changed after each client. Items that cannot be cleaned and disinfected or changed between clients will be removed from the treatment area.

Now that you know what to anticipate, here are some tips on what you can do to help ensure everyone remains safe:

  • Stay home if you have COVID-19 symptoms or are feeling unwell.
  • Try not to touch your face.
  • Clean your hands often. Use soap and water, or an alcohol-based hand rub.
  • Cover your nose and mouth with your bent elbow or a tissue when you cough or sneeze.
  • Ask any questions you have before, during and after treatment.
