Future-proof career advice
(NC) Embarking on a new career can feel uncertain these days. Though the pandemic has highlighted the unpredictability of life and thrown off even the best-laid plans, there’s still some career advice that’s always worth hearing. Here is a timeless tip:
There are many ways to follow your passion
Even a passion that seems specific — such as a love of theatre camp — will relate to many opportunities. For instance, that theatre-loving kid may find satisfaction using public-speaking skills from camp as lawyer standing up in court.
Passions that may seem out of reach have many ways to get involved. That love of theatre might not make an actor or a lawyer, but a theatre company always needs IT and HR specialists, business expertise and maybe even health-related professionals like physiotherapists.
Likewise, if you have a passion for the water, love giving back to your community and long to see the country, the Canadian Coast Guard could be a good fit.
They have many opportunities to train and serve on their fleet, as well as roles in marine communications, marine technology, and search and rescue. From mapping the Canadian seabed with complex technology, to operating marine traffic control, to prevent shipping collisions, there are many ways to connect skills and interests with the Coast Guard.
Ultimately, to find the career that’s right for you at any age, do your research and look for ways to combine your skills, knowledge and interests.
